Paraic & Maria wedding at Ballymagarvey

August 21, 2019

The real wedding that I’m sharing today is a real mash-up of styles – it’s a little bit bohemian, a little bit glam, and a little bit vintage-inspired, all while being thoroughly, breathtakingly gorgeous! Páraic and Maria, an Irish couple living in Brighton, thought they wanted a quick and simple ‘do near their current home, but ended up with an epic yet intimate party at Ballymagarvey Village. Shot partially on film , the photographs from their big day feature beautiful florals, killer bridal style and lots of chic, personal details. Ready for a closer look? Let’s go!

Seven years later, Páraic proposed in his native Kilkenny. “We had attended a family wedding the night before,” Maria remembers, “and it was a beautiful day, so Páraic mentioned that we should go to the park by Kilkenny Castle. I was wondering why he was a little flustered, but I didn’t think much of it. Sitting under the trees, reading our books and making plans, he popped the question. It was the last thing I expected, and he had chosen a beautiful ring for me. A look of worry came over his face as I couldn’t say anything, but I did manage to say yes in the end! We spent the rest of the evening in the sun, listening to a beautiful orchestra in the park.”

We are head over heels in love with Maria’s wedding dress, which she found at one of our all-time favourite boutiques, Alice May Bridal in Dublin. Comprising a fitted, slip-style gown and lace top, it’s a straight-up showstopper!

The couple tell us that they initially flirted with the idea of a quick and easy wedding in Brighton. “But we knew we would regret not having the people closest to us with us to celebrate,” Maria explains. “Our theme was a mix of boho chic and a more traditional-style wedding. We’re so grateful to all the amazing people involved who made it possible. Our wedding was better than we could have ever imagined!”

While Páraic and Maria ultimately plumbed for a more traditional, family-friendly wedding in Ireland, they still wanted to keep things intimate. “Our main priority for the day was to have a small wedding,” Maria says, “with a venue that was compact enough to make it feel as if we were celebrating at home (only fancier!)”

The couple tell us that they fell in love with Ballymagarvey Village at first sight. “Everything about it worked with our goal of having a homely, relaxed wedding. Arranging the wedding with Ballymagarvey Village was also very straight forward. They did everything from decoration to food, and their packages are simple and clear to follow which is so important, as this isn’t always the case! Afterwards, our guests were raving about how down to earth and fun all the staff were on the day. It’s easy to see that they really enjoy what they do.”

Another big priority for this pair was having gorgeous imagery to remember the day by. “Being an artist, I’m all about capturing fun and quirky moments and I knew Anna G Photography would do an unbelievable job capturing what I envisioned in my head,” Maria says. “She worked for my family before for different celebrations, and, the minute I booked my venue, I knew I had to have her on the day. I was delighted to know that she was available. She really captured the style I was going for and she was willing to do whatever it took to get the perfect shot, including standing in a downpour of rain!”

‘Anna shot both digital and film photographs from Páraic and Maria’s day, making this set of images particularly dreamy!”

Maria was happy to share some post-wedding advice for us to pass onto engaged couples. “Try not to get stressed about everything, as it will all come together beautifully on the day,” she says. “Be prepared that things can go wrong and when they do, let it go. The most important thing is to enjoy the time you have with the people closest to you.”

The couple’s sweet treats incorporated a long-standing family tradition on both sides. “Both of our mothers make tarts regularly and have done for as long as we can remember,” Maria says. “My mum made a three-tiered wedding tart for us and tarts for the guests. It was really special to have this homemade touch on the day!”

The couple are currently in the middle of a move to Abu Dhabi, but once they’re settled, they’ll start planning the honeymoon. “We’re excited to plan a trip somewhere exotic that’s close by,” Maria tells us.
